Meet the Teacher Night August 23, 2012
PE, Computers, and Band meet once or twice a week and count as one grade when figuring grade point average. Non-band students have a study period during the full band time on Fridays. If a band student is gone from a class because of their lesson, they are responsible for getting the assignment they missed. We try not to introduce any new material during those times.
Mrs. Johnson teaches Social Studies and fourth grade math. Mrs. Murphy teaches Science and fifth grade math. The remainder of the fourth grade classes are taught by the homeroom teacher.
Fourth grade will continue to have Second Steps, a Respect Program during Religion.
VOCABULARY AND COMPREHENSION are big in fourth grade.
Each class is full of new vocabulary and students will need to understand the meanings, not just memorize the word and definitions. Students will be taking notes for study, especially in Social Studies. Flash Cards are used for Science vocabulary. Spelling lists are listed on the website.
If your child is sick, a note with the homework will be sent home if you tell us who to send it with when you call the office. Work should be caught up as soon as possible. Tests can be rescheduled when they return, although this is difficult as we would be working on the next section already. Stay as healthy as you can! If your child needs to take aany medicine during the day, please write their name on an envelope and we will send it to the office since we can not hand out medication. Cough drops are allowed but let the teacher know.
Grades are kept on Mystudentprogress so you can follow your child's weekly progress.
Scholastic and Troll Book orders are used but we do not push the purchase of these books. Libraries are free and we both have so many good books in our classrooms. AR is used as an extra in Reading. This will be discussed when the Star Test is taken and your child's reading level is determined.
